When I saw this book come up I decided it was time that I learned more about these events. I was too young to have any memories of Eichmann's capture & trial, but I've known the basic history. This is a well written account of the events. The follies of human nature are laid bare in this account, & I wonder if leads hadn't been ignored how much sooner he may have been apprehended.
At the end of reading it, I am left saddened yet again by human nature & how easy it is to justify to oneself that following orders is reason enough to commit atrocities. In any other circumstances Eichmann may have been a completely ordinary boring little man. This in itself should be a lesson to us all!
I think this book is well worth reading, it sheds light on the actions and attitudes prevalent at the time & the reasoning of the people who felt they had to bring war criminals to justice, when so many had turned a blind eye & colluded with them to evade capture.
