This is a quick short read by Brian McGilloway, and the first two chapters of his novel, Little Girl Lost. The Stolen Child is about a couple who have had a miscarriage.
The wife, Karen keeps hearing a baby crying on the child monitor, so her husband calls the police after walking the road, to see if the monitor is picking up cries from another household. Where he believes the cries are coming from seems to be incorrect, as the house is owned by a single man.
Ultimately he has no option but to investigate himself. Ideal reading over a cup of tea.
